The injections are done in an office setting and rarely take more than 15-25 minutes. Once the face is washed and dried, collagen is injected. The injections can be mildly tender and the therapist can apply a topical anesthetic 20 minutes prior to the procedure to numb the pain. The latest formulations of collagen already come with a local anesthetic mixed so there is little or no pain during the injections.
Who should not undergo collagen injections?
Individuals who have an acute skin infection, those who take blood thinning medications or those who have any skin related medical disorder like lupus are not candidates for collagen injections.
What is downtime after collagen injection?
After the procedure, there is very little downtime. A few individual do develop redness and mild swelling which usually disappears in a few days.
