Dermal Fillers: part 2

How many types of dermal fillers are on the market?

There is no perfect dermal filler. The first one was collagen and 20 years later; we are still looking for the best filler. Most dermal fillers erase lines and wrinkles for 3- 18 months maximum. The available dermal fillers today include collagen-based fillers like Cosmoderm, others are made of hyaluronic acid (Restylane), and some are calcium hydroxyl apatite like Radiesse.

Are dermal fillers permanent?

Never trust a cosmetic physician who claims that these dermal fillers are permanent. There is no such product on the market. You will continue to need future treatments to maintain your youthful look.

Which dermal fillers is ideal?

There is no one dermal filler that is ideal for every one. Most can erase wrinkles for a few months to a few years, at most. You have to sit down with the surgeon and discuss what you want and what your expectations are. You have to be realistic. Cosmetic surgeons will make it sound like everything is great. In fact, majority of people who undergo dermal filler injections end up being disappointed.
