Facial veins: part 2

How is diagnosis of spider veins made?

The diagnosis of facial veins is relatively simple. A qualified dermatologist can easily make the diagnosis based on observation; there is no need for an x ray, biopsy, or any type of blood work.

What are treatment options for spider veins of face?

Once the diagnosis is made, the chief reason for treatment is cosmesis. There are several options available to treat facial veins including observation. For those who want to get rid of spider veins, the options include:

Camouflage is always an option for individuals who cannot afford expensive treatments. There are decent make-up creams that can easily hide the facial veins. While this is a temporary solution, it is cheap and safe. However, the camouflage must be applied continuously.

Electrosurgery has been used in the past to treat facial veins. Electrosurgery is a fancy name for a small needle that delivers an electrical current. The needle is held close to the spider and the current administered. The current immediately destroy the spider veins. No matter what one tells you, this procedure hurts like hell. To numb the pain, you can ask for some topical cooling agent or an injection of a local anesthetic- it still hurts.

Electrosurgery is not as expensive as laser but is just as efficient. Even though complications are rare with Electrosurgery, they do occur and may cause severe discoloration or scarring.
