Glycolic acid peels: Are they worth the money? part 2

Who can use glycolic acid peels?

Well, there is no reason why anyone cannot use it. In general, one should avoid using chemical peels for small tiny skin lesions and especially when one is under the age of 40. There is more harm from these acids than benefit. Glycolic acid peel has been claimed to be useful for

- acne scars
- skin discoloration
- uneven skin
- photo aged skin
- wrinkles
- fine lines
- crow’s feet

How long does the procedure take?

One should not get in the habit of leaving chemicals peels on face for more than 15-25 minutes. The longer the peel is left on skin, the greater is the chance of a side effect. The recommended time for most peels is about 20 minutes

When does one see results after a glycolic acid peel?

Well, some individuals never see a response. Others see a response after 4-6 weeks. No one ever sees an immediate response. Soon after treatment, the skin starts to peel and it takes at least 4-6 weeks for new healthy skin to replace the old skin.

How often should these peels be applied?

If your skin has minor blemishes avoid all peels. They all worsen your skin and you risk developing unpleasant side effects. For those who have acne scars, one should use the peel every 6-8 weeks. If you do not see any response after the first treatment, do not be a sucker and try it again.

On what part of body can glycolic acid peels be used?

- face
- neck
- chest
- hands
- arms
- legs
