Microdermabrasion- another cosmetic device which does zilch!

All of a sudden, everyone talks about Microdermabrasion as if it is the best thing since Viagra. Let me get the facts out first. Microdermabrasion is a device with some fast rotating crystals inside. When the device is held close to the skin, the spinning action gently removes some dead skin. That is it. You could do the same thing with scrubbing your face with a decent soap or use a rough piece of cloth- and for this fancy piece of equipment you pay anywhere from $30-$100 per session. I do have to add that Microdermabrasion does give the skin a polished look that will last a few hours.

So what is big deal with Microdermabrasion?

People who sell this therapy claim it is the newest thing in cosmetic skincare-this nonsensical claim is like saying the condom was invented yesterday! For decades, cosmetologists have been trying to create devices which can abrade the skin using a variety of equipment. In the olden days, the devices used were harsh and this caused a lot of skin damage. Today, the devices are small, compact, gentle but do nothing at all. You just pay for the comfort of sitting in a posh office and get treated like a King or Queen for 30 minutes.

The Microdermabrasion device is hyped up to remove dirt and oils from face (you could do this at home with soap and then look pretty with make up for a lot less).

So what can Microdermabrasion treat?

Well, the doctors and everyone else in the business of cosmetics says it can treat wrinkles, skin creases, acne scars, skin discolorations, photo aged skin and can reduce all other skin imperfections on the face (that means it does jack s..t)

So how does this device work?

Well, you sit in an office, spa, or a clinic. The device is held close to skin surface. Microdermabrasion device has fine crystals that rotate at high speed. The spinning action removes dead skin, debris, and oil. Today, various devices contain different type of crystals- like copper, diamond, silicon etc. The end result is a soft skin, which is shiny, polished, radiant and pleasing.
